English Information

The Junior Ranger program offers fun activities that kids can do while learning valuable facts about Germany’s protected areas, animals and nature.

What is a Junior Ranger?
A Junior Ranger explores nature in Germany’s natural parks and biosphere reserves. They get to observe wild animals, examine plants, help real rangers do their jobs and also learn how to preserve nature.

Who can become a Junior Ranger?
Anyone who is between 7 and 12 years old can become a Junior Ranger. Some national parks also offer programs for older kids and teens.

The Junior Ranger program consists of four main branches.

  • Junior Ranger Groups: If you live close to a national park or protected area, you can join its Junior Ranger group and discover interesting facts about its nature.
  • The explorer’s tour: offers summer camps and activity booklets which you can obtain in several national parks. With these activity booklets you can explore the park and earn an award at the end of your visit.
  • Web: Soon you will be able to do fun activities on our website. You can earn WebRanger awards when you complete the activities. But they’re not ready so far, we’re still working on installing them.
  • School: The Junior Ranger program will soon offer teaching material so that kids can learn more about nature and Germany’s parks in school.

There are different ways to become a Junior Ranger.

How can you become a Junior Ranger?

  • You can join a national park’s Junior Ranger group. Once you joined a group, you can pass a Ranger test. Each park has its own Ranger qualifications. Just send the park an e-mail and they will send you information on their Junior Ranger program (how often and where they meet) and which qualifications you need to become a Ranger.
  • When you visit a national park, you can ask for their activity booklet. This booklet guides you through the park and points out interesting facts. Once you have completed the activity booklet, you are a Junior Ranger and receive an award.
  • If you live too far from a national park but still want to become a Junior Ranger, you can go to one of our summer camps. Write us and we'll send you information on how to register.

Here you can view a list of the participating national parks with their contact information.
